One Of Our Own - Single

Kev Rogers

A voice that can be heard above all others on GTFC matchdays is that of Kev Rogers. He is the man who announces the teams, goal scorers, substitutions, and everything else you hear through the PA system – and he’s been doing it for the last 25 years.

Kev got the job as the club’s PA Announcer after answering a small ad in the Grimsby Telegraph. He auditioned for the job by standing in the middle of the Blundell Park pitch and speaking into a microphone while members of the office staff sat in the stands to listen. His voice came through loud and clear! Kev said: “Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to Blundell Park”. Not only did he get the job, he still uses the exact same words to this day at the beginning of every home match.

Kev’s first visit to Blundell Park was back in 1968, when he and his dad watched the Mariners draw 1-1 with Peterborough United – he still has the programme from this game. He quickly became a regular and fondly remembers the 1971-72 title-winning season under Lawrie McMenemy, where he enjoyed watching his favourite players Dave Boylen, Matt Tees, Lew Chatterley, Stuart Brace and Alan Woodward.

One of the highlights of his job has been to announce The Mariners’ team at Wembley Stadium on several occasions. He is looking forward to the rest of the season, and hopefully another Wembley visit!

"But there's none to compare with my Grimsby"

One Of Our Own is a collaboration between Grimbarians and GTFC to celebrate and shine a light on the unseen heroes that make the club tick.
