One Of Our Own - Single

Alex Green

This is Alex Green, the brains (and the main voice) behind the DN35 Podcast – the unofficial podcast of Grimsby Town. For the last six years, Alex and his band of fellow Town-supporting ‘panelists’ have been creating regular shows to entertain their growing online audience.

The idea for the podcast started when Alex and Henry Barber had a season ticket next to each other during the 2009-10 relegation season and their irreverent chats were all that kept the pair entertained during Town’s 24-game winless run! During the season the Mariners won promotion to the EFL in 2016, Alex and Henry began recording their conversations about the comings and goings at BP on an old laptop and made them available for download. Over time, their jokey and sometimes very honest views on all things GTFC began to resonate, and by the time of the first lockdown, ‘the pod’ had become the main way supporters could hear the opinions of other Town fans during the pandemic. Alex and his team produced around 50 podcasts during the lockdown alone – all of which were free for people to stream or download.

Recently Alex has started to diversify on the pod and speak to special guests from the world of Grimsby Town. These episodes have included discussions with club legends such as John McDermott, Steve Livingstone, John Cockerill and Alan Pouton (Alex’s favourite) and they have been some of the most interesting and revealing interviews the players have ever done! This season, Jason Stockwood, Andrew Pettit and Debbie Cook have also appeared to outline their strategies and also answer questions put forward by Alex, the panel and the podcast’s followers. It has been public service broadcasting at its finest.

Anyone who listens will know that Alex is a proud Grimbarian who now lives in Hampshire. But during his formative years he was always a regular at Blundell Park. His first game was in the 1994-95 season when Town beat Sunderland 3-1. Alex used to sit in the Pontoon with his dad but he would sometimes go on his own when his old man was tied up at work (he used to work for Pettits in Grimsby). However, Alex wouldn’t have even been aware of Grimsby Town if it hadn’t been for the club’s current Chief Operating Officer, Adam Smith. He was Alex’s next-door neighbour during his childhood and it was Adam’s yellow and red Town shirt that used to hang on his wall which got Alex interested in the Mariners.

"But there's none to compare with my Grimsby"

One Of Our Own is a collaboration between Grimbarians and GTFC to celebrate and shine a light on the unseen heroes that make the club tick.
