One Of Our Own - Single

Bruce Fenwick

Bruce will be a familiar face to many who watch the Mariners. Whether he’s with his 10-year-old daughter Maisy at Blundell Park or the lads on an away day, he’s officially ‘one of the regulars’ and has been for over 30 years. However, Bruce’s support for the club doesn’t stop once the match is over. In fact, he’s probably one of the most prolific independent online content creators associated with Grimsby Town Football Club.

Bruce is the person behind @OnThisGTFCday, the popular Twitter account which posts archive footage, photographs, programmes and other artefacts from Mariners history. The account began when he started posting clips from old games on the anniversary of the fixture, and over the last three years it’s grown into a community of over 3,000 which gets a huge amount of engagement from fans and former players. His passion for digitalising old footage of the Mariners has resulted in fans sending him boxes of their old VHS tapes in the post so other supporters can enjoy watching certain games and goals from the club’s history. Bruce’s unrivalled archive of old video clips and links to former players made him a natural collaborator with the DN35 Podcast and he’s been a regular contributor to their episodes for the last couple of years.

Even though his first game was in 1985 with his family, Bruce relied on friends and people from his village to get him to Blundell Park as a youngster. However, he soon began making new friends by going to games – many of which he still enjoys a pre-match pint with. The first ‘big game’ atmosphere he experienced at Blundell Park was against Coventry City in 1989, followed by Exeter in ‘91 to clinch promotion and then later games against Spurs, Villa, West Brom, Leicester and Fulham in the 90s stand out before Spurs (again) and Lincoln in 2005-06. He counts Paul Futcher, Clive Mendonca, Paul Groves and Ivano Bonetti among his favourite ever Town players, but as anyone who follows his account on Twitter would testify, Bruce loves regaling about players from long before his time.
