Grimsby-born Jessica Townsend is a bridalwear designer with her very own studio, Wold Couture.
She completed an Art Foundation at Grimsby College, exploring the combination of nature with art and fashion, before leaving the area to further her studies at the London College of Fashion. This is where she developed her love for unique, hand-crafted bridal couture.
After working for a bridal company in London for five years, Jessica returned home to begin Wold Couture. Each dress she designs is unique. Jessica says: “My designs stem directly from the little pockets of beauty found in the Lincolnshire countryside – a cobweb or a leaf, for example.
I’ve always found this area of the world to be quite aesthetically inspiring. There’s something quite lovely in the flatness of the land and how much sky you can see because of it.”
Now, Jessica is studying once again for a Masters in Fashion with the dream of creating a sustainable fashion line, House of Flint. Collections that are not only inspired by the environment but is kind to it, too.
In recent years, Grimsby’s profile has seen a change with a wave of positivity thanks to local people's dedication and a growing faith in the area.
Grimbarians is more than a not-for-profit organisation. It is a creative movement, born to change the story line of the town and the way people identify the area.
Through documenting and showcasing the lives of local people, we aim to promote confidence in the area, increase pride and build a stronger, more positive reputation for Great Grimsby because #grimsbyreallyismore.
